Belly fat is really embarrassing. It mars your overall figure. Belly fat isn’t something that is found only in overweight people. Even skinniest of people can have a protruding belly. And it is one bulging part of your body that seems stubbornly impossible to get in shape.
What causes belly fat?
Before we get on to the ways of reducing belly fat, let’s get ourselves acquainted with the reasons why it happens in the first place. People who have weak metabolism are prone to develop belly fat. A weak metabolism can be due to various reasons such as age, pH imbalance in your body, or diseases such as diabetes and thyroid. Stress is another major factor contributing to belly fat. Overeating, poor posture and a sedentary lifestyle can also cause belly fat. Other than these, genetics and hormonal changes in your body may also lead to fat accumulation around your belly.
How to reduce belly fat
Nothing burns belly fat faster than crunches. Lie down flat with knees bent and place your hands behind your head. Inhale deeply. Lift your upper torso and while doing that exhale. As you go down inhale again. Repeat.
This exercise tones your abdomen, hip and lower back muscles. On the floor, position yourself on your elbows and knees. Now lift your knees up. Support your leg on toes. Keep your body straight. Hold this position.
Your position will be similar to that in the previous exercise. But instead of holding your body on elbows, use your palms. Next, bend your elbows and lower your chest. Return to the first position. Repeat.
Stand with legs hip-width apart. Take a big step forward with your right leg and lower your body. Make sure your knees make 90° angles. Return to the first position. Repeat the same with the other leg.
Lie on the floor. Keep your hands behind your head. Lift both your legs and mimic cycling. Bring one knee closer to your chest while keeping the other away. Repeat.
(If you are a beginner, do not strain yourself much as it may lead to back ache and other problems.)
Apart from the above-mentioned exercises, walking, running, jogging, swimming, and aerobics can also help you to reduce belly fat and tone your overall body. Diet control is necessary too along with regular exercise. Cut on sugar and sodium and increase vitamin C intake. Eat a healthy balanced diet. And drink lots of water.
